Quartering Away

Long story short I had a doe come in and I hesitated to take her.  I finally made up my mind and when I did she was quartering away pretty hard.  I figured I had a good shot but when I released, she must have been taking a step.  I hit her in the hind end and she took off hobbling.  I thought for sure I just wounded her based on what I saw.  I got out of my treestand as fast as I could to chase and put another arrow in her.  Following the blood trail past my camera, I could hear her in the thick stuff and paused.  It was silent, so I decided to grab my camera and go back to the truck.  I checked the pics to see if she was there and exactly what the shot looked like.  To my surprise, she was there and it appeared a lot of arrow was sticking out.  I waited about a half hour and made a big circle around the thick stuff to see if there was a blood trail out.  Nothing.  I slowly got back on the blood trail and was shocked to find her another 40 yards from where I stopped.  She was probably dead for the 30 minutes I waited.  The arrow had busted her femur and still had enough momentum to make it to the heart.  The 125 Grain Black Label Maasai had done the job.
